About Me

Meet your Yoga Teacher Toni

My yoga journey began in 2002, I was living in the US, and I joined a Hatha Yoga class. The teacher had the lights off with only candles burning. It was my first introduction to practising mindfulness through meditation. I was intrigued. When I returned to South Africa, I began a regular yoga practice and became totally hooked.

Finding My Yoga Style

After starting with Hatha Yoga, I discovered Ashtanga (a Vinyasa style with a set sequence) which I loved because it was very challenging. However, after two injuries, I explored other (less vigorous) styles including Iyengar and Kundalini, which expanded my yoga knowledge. Finally, I fell in love with free-flowing Vinyasa Yoga, as it (just like Ashtanga does) harmonises your breathing with your movements. It’s not a set sequence so it’s very creative, spontaneous and fun!

From Student to Teacher

In 2012 I headed to Bali to complete my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Registered Yoga School – Frog Lotus International. I spent a month in Ubud training with Vidya Heisel and Jennilee Toner (my incredible anatomy teacher). That same year I started a little studio in Joburg called Vibrant Vinyasa, sharing my love of dynamic but accessible yoga sequences. After moving to Cape Town in 2017 I started Mukta Yoga (my original VV students still practise with me online) and I continue to share my love of yoga philosophy, correct alignment, modifications to suit your body, and the many benefits of regular yoga practice

What to expect from my classes

My mission is to help more people feel more connected to their minds and bodies and to improve their range of movement.

Well-rounded Classes

I include breathwork (pranayama), a comprehensive warm-up, sun salutations with creative ways of flowing into different standing and balancing poses, and cool-down floor work.

Yoga Classes Just For You

My classes will challenge you, however I adapt and offer modification poses to suit your body and its potential limitations. After 20 years of yoga I know there is no “perfect” pose.

Free yourself from tension, tightness and limitations

Mukta means liberated. I chose this name because yoga frees our minds and bodies from the stresses and limitations of daily life. With regular practice you will start to open up to this freedom and let go of things that do not serve you. I hope to see you on the mat and guide you on your journey of liberation.
